On potential clamping on the membrane of the body of the nerve cell using intracellular electrodes the mechanism of ionic permeability appearing in response to injection of cyclic nucleotides may be determined only with the aid of the reversal potential. It is concluded that the permeability increases chiefly through opening of the potential-independent sodium channels. The delay in the moment of advent of ionic current on introducing cyclic nucleotides by pressure is ten times less than the diffusion time of cAMP up to the membrane which leads to the hypothesis on mechanical opening of these channels by the cytoskeleton on which acts the cyclic nucleotide introduced into the cell.
